Kelvin Road School Visits the Zoo
All of the Kelvin Road School pupils hopped onto buses and traveled to the Auckland Zoo over this week. The pupils were able to see many of the animals and listen to stories and explanations about them in the context of Matauranga Maori.
It was very exciting to see the animals in the stories that we had been reading or hearing about in class. One animal we saw was the Kaka. In stories, the naughty Kaka tricked the Kakariki into giving up its bright, beautiful feathers. We did notice that the Kakariki was keeping its distance from the Kaka but that could just be a coincidence!
